Picture
The Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardeners celebrated their newest members on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the LSU AgCenter Extension Office in Minden. This year’s annual Master Gardener Class had 8 students who underwent 40 hours of horticulture education over the course of 10 weeks this summer to qualify to graduate and become a Master Gardener. The 2016 Piney Hills Master Gardener Class graduates included Butch Williams, Ki Williams, Peg Parker, Orvell Bryant, Tracie Wilder, Kelly Williams, Wanda Smith, and Beverly Abraham.

Class Coordinator, Marjorie Thomas, commented this about the class..."
All were curious and attentive and eager to learn from our very knowledgeable visiting professors who taught our classes. Labs, taught by Master Gardeners, were enjoyed and found to be very educational and the hands-on experience was appreciated."

These graduates had an opportunity to learn about soils, botany, plant pathology, fruit and nut trees, vegetables, ornamental horticulture, entomology, and many other topics.
These new graduates will join the ranks of other Piney Hills Master Gardeners who work tirelessly to promote horticulture and home gardening in Bienville, Bossier, Claiborne and Webster Parishes.

A wonderful meal was served by the August Food Committee and table decorations were provided by several other Master Gardeners.

A warm welcome is extended to these new enthusiastic PHLMG members !!!

If you think you might like to join the Master Gardeners, a new class will be held next summer. You may contact Lee Faulk, Assistant County Agent for Webster and Claiborne Parishes, at 371-1371 or 927-3110 for more information.
