Master Gardener of the 3rd Quarter 2015

Picture
Glenda Collums

President, Evalyn Cabell, in an effort to recognize the efforts of our hard working Master Gardeners, has implemented the ‘Master Gardener of the Quarter’.

Each member of the organization submits their candidate by secret ballot. The votes are then counted and the results announced.  Deciding on a candidate is hard with all of the possible choices in our group.

Glenda Collums was chosen as the Master Gardener of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2015!

Glenda was asked these three questions:

            1.  Why did you become a Master Gardener?

            2.  What is your favorite thing about being a Master Gardener?

            3.  What do you think is the most important thing you have learned as a Master Gardener?

Here is her reply:

Why did I become a Master Gardener?  Wow, that was soooo long ago!  One day I saw an article in the Minden Press about Ms. Susie Lester.  She had just taken the Master Gardener class in Shreveport, the first one held there.  I thought that might be something I would enjoy….just love flowers, you know, so I got an application and waited impatiently, and a little scared, to see if I would be accepted.  And, lo and behold, I was!

My favorite thing about the Master Gardeners are the many wonderful friends I have made and continue to make!  I used to be shy (I know crazy notion, huh?..but I was) and didn’t make friends very easily.  Being a part of the MG organization remedied that!

I have learned so many things as a MG that it is hard to pinpoint any one thing.  Being a part of such a great group has taught me not only things I needed to know about gardening, but how to speak in public and share knowledge.

There are so many deserving the honor of being MG of the Quarter.  I am truly blessed to have been chosen this quarter.  Thank you!
And, be thinking of who you would like to nominate for our next ‘Master Gardener of the Quarter’.
